The Queen.. Lady Pink

30 Oct

The beautiful and very talented O.G. Lady Pink started tagging Subway trains at age 16. She was not the first females to write graffiti, but she is credited with opening the doors for other female writers. From her subway cars to walls in NYC Lady Pink held her own! Lady Pink is Incredibly influential and iconic for the female graffiti world!null

After seeing wild style and researching women in graffiti, I found It was there wasn’t much information on women writers.

I wondered why weren’t women as celebrated as men were in graffiti?? Finally the book Graffiti Women Released in 2006 which was amazing for female writers!! As well as showing what other women were doing world wide. This had became my bible! The author of the Graffiti World, Made this spectacular book celebrating the contributions of women to contemporary graffiti and street art. Female writers have always been in the vanguard of the graffiti movement, though often shunted to the sidelines by their male counterparts.

Lady Pink was born in Ecuador, but raised in NYC. In 1979 she started writing graffiti and soon was well known as the only female capable of competing with the boys in the graffiti subculture. Pink painted subway trains from the years 1979-1985. In 1982 she had a starring role the motion picture “Wild Style”. That role and her other significant contributions to graffiti have made her a cult figure in the hip-hop subculture.

Today, Lady Pink continues to create new paintings on canvas that express her unique personal vision. She also shares her 30 years of experience with teens by holding mural workshops and actively lecturing to college students throughout the Northeast.

Thank you lady pink!

Love Compassion and Justice!

This is not our normal post of art. Instead we wanted to take the time to bring some realism to the site.
Few and Far is very much an diverse group of women, not everything said on this site is opinion of the collective as a whole. We stand up for what we believe is true and righteous.

“Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable – a most sacred right – a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world”.
Abraham Lincoln

Women and men alike should all stand for their hopes and their dreams, do not wait for some one else to do it for you!! As We aim to bring the beauty out of hard times, as we also push to unite females. All people in general should do the same, age, sex or gender. The idea of a better world a peaceful existence with every one and every thing. Greed and violence only separates us more!!

An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
Mohandas Gandhi

All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.
Dalai Lama

If you want a love message to be heard, it has got to be sent out. To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.
Mother Teresa
A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
There is no such thing as defeat in non-violence.
Cesar Chavez

“Among poor people, there’s not any question about women being strong — even stronger than men — they work in the fields right along with the men. When your survival is at stake, you don’t have these questions about yourself like middle-class women do.”
Dolores Huerta
Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.
